Renovation of Haussmann-style apartment in Paris

The objectives

When we discovered this flat for the first time with the new owner, it had been in its original state for 30 years: all the floors were covered with carpets, the walls were wallpapered, the paintwork had aged and the bathrooms were old-fashioned. On the other hand, the spaciousness and double aspect of the flat were very promising.

After much discussion and understanding of the family’s lifestyle and tastes, we were given carte blanche to renovate and decorate their new apartment.

Our solutions

Right from the entrance, the theme is set with sober, elegant, bespoke shoe storage units in black wood, designed by our agency. An elegant Knoll leather bench accentuates the stained-glass windows.

In the bright double living room with its three French windows, the original mouldings are highlighted by the white paint used throughout the flat. The original herringbone parquet that was hidden under the carpet has been completely renovated and enhanced.

In the dining room, we created a walnut and matt lacquer wall finish that structures the room and frames the large Scandinavian table and chairs by designer Arne Jacobsen.

In the lounge, the large corner sofa in light-coloured fabric and its black metal coffee table creates a welcoming, convivial space facing the fireplace and its Louis XV trumeau, which the owners had sourced.

Particular attention has been paid to the contemporary lighting, which underlines the elegant simplicity of the Italian and Scandinavian design furniture.

On the night side, we chose to reorganise the circulation towards the two children’s bedrooms and their bathroom by creating a direct and private access from the entrance. At the same time, a bespoke cloakroom was designed in the new hallway. A discreet and efficient way of storing outdoor clothes without overloading the entrance.

In each child’s bedroom we designed a large dressing room, a bookcase with open and closed storage, a desk and a dressing table. All made to measure by our joinery craftsmen in a walnut and matt lacquer finish.

The children’s bathroom was completely restructured without changing its dimensions. We chose soft, luminous materials, with brushed gold taps and sand-coloured porcelain stoneware. We kept the previous owner’s 70s-style mirror, which fits in perfectly with the new decor.

The parents’ bedroom is the room that has undergone the biggest restructuring. We removed the partition separating the old bedroom and a corridor leading to the bathroom to create a large master suite with a bespoke dressing room on the back of the bed. The master bathroom has been renovated in the same grey and black colour scheme, with a whirlpool bath, walk-in shower and double washbasin unit.

The made-to-measure fittings we designed enabled us to conceal the air-conditioning with which we equipped the bedrooms.

The Boffi kitchen, in the same colours as the rest of the flat, is bright and functional, with a magnificent chocolate granite worktop!

The stylistic note

A Haussmann-style apartment where Italian elegance meets Scandinavian sobriety!
